BCSSA Pool of Fame

Purpose

The BCSSA Pool of Fame was established in 1998 to honour outstanding athletes and individuals who have made significant and positive contributions, in or out of the pool, to the BCSSA, its goals and purposes, to honour the new inductees and to celebrate BCSSA’s rich aquatic heritage.

Pool of Fame Selection Committee  

 

I.          A maximum of six (6) individuals shall be appointed to the BCSSA Pool of Fame Selection Committee and in the opinion of the BCSSA Board of Directors, shall be:

A.         Persons of integrity and ability; and

B.         Knowledgeable of the BCSSA, its past and present competitors, builders and   

             newsmakers.

II.          The Committee shall appoint its own chair from amongst its members.

III.         Each Member is allowed to sit on the Committee for two (2) terms.  One (1) term is equal to two (2) years.

Criteria for Induction into the Pool of Fame  

 

I. Eligibility

A.         An individual must meet at least one of the following requirements to be considered for nomination and induction:

  1. Made a contribution to the BCSSA at a Local, Provincial, National or International level - directly or indirectly - as an athlete, coach, official or administrator.

2. Performed meritorious service on behalf of aquatic athletes.

B.         The Committee will be responsible for making any changes in eligibility requirements upon approval by the Board of the BCSSA.

II. Qualifications

A.         Builder

A builder directs aquatic athletes in a leadership capacity.  A builder is a coach, trainer, manager, official, administrator, volunteer, facility/program developer, or media member, but, is not a professional promoter, sponsor or fundraiser in the employ of BCSSA.   A builder may be currently either active or inactive to be considered and shall be evaluated for his or her outstanding effort in one or more sports, normally over a period of at least ten (10) years, but not necessarily consecutively.

Candidates for election as Members in the Builder Category shall be chosen on the basis of their coaching, managerial, officiating and/or executive ability, sportsmanship, character and their contribution to their organization or organizations and to aquatics with the BCSSA.

B.        Newsmakers

Shall be chosen on the basis of their abilities, sportsmanship, character, and their contribution to the BCSSA, its good reputation and to aquatics in general.

C.       Competitor

Candidates must have concluded their careers as active athletes for a minimum of three aquatic seasons before their election except for outstanding pre-eminence and skill, the Committee may reduce or eliminate such a waiting period.

III. Nominations

A.        The Committee may select a maximum of six (6) individuals annually for election to the BCSSA Pool of Fame.

1. Nominations must be completed on Official BCSSA Pool of Fame Candidate Forms and submitted to the Chairperson of the Committee by March 31st of each year in order to be eligible for induction for that year.

2. Committee members shall assume responsibility for researching history on each of the nominations.  Complete and accurate information shall be presented to the Chair of the BCSSA Board by June 30th in that year.

3. The BCSSA Board will be responsible for making any changes involving the nomination format.

IV. Selection Process

A.        The Committee may annually elect a maximum of six (6) individuals, with two in each category.

B.         Each committee Member shall designate their preference of individuals to be inducted, in descending numerical order of preference, in each category.

C.        The two (2) individuals, in each category, with the highest cumulative totals shall be declared elected.

D.        Should there be a tie between second and third in a category a tiebreaker shall be done.  The same process stated above would occur between the two individuals until the tie is broken.

V. Induction

  1. Those selected shall be honoured at an Induction Ceremony to be held at the Annual Provincial Championship Meet.

 

The BCSSA Pool of Fame honours those who have made a huge contribution to BCSSA both in and out of the pool.
